Constitution

Article I – Name
The official name of the organization shall be the “Association of Optometric Contact Lens Educators,” abbreviated “AOCLE.”
Article II – Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to promote the quality of contact lens education.
Article III – Independence
This organization is to remain independent of other groups.
Article IV – Nonprofit purpose
This organization shall function exclusively as a non-profit organization for the purpose of education as described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and is not organized for the private gain of any person.

By-Laws

Article I – Membership
Membership will be open to all qualified contact lens educators associated with the various schools and colleges of optometry in North America with each institution assigned one vote within the organization.
Article II – Meetings
A meeting of the organization is to be held once a year, preferably in the summer (June to August). Other meetings and times may be set by the Executive Committee, with the input of the membership.
Article III – Offices and Terms
The organization shall have a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer* for a term of two years.
The treasurer may hold more than one consecutive term of office.**
The duties of the officers shall be those ordinarily assumed by officers of organizations.
Article IV – Executive Committee
The Executive Committee shall consist of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, the Secretary, and the Treasurer.*
Article V – Funding
Groups interested in funding the expenses of this organization shall be requested to submit a letter to the Executive Committee Chairman.
Article VI – Organization of Annual Meeting
The Executive Committee shall have the responsibility each year of organizing an annual meeting.
Article VII – Political Limitation
No substantial part of the activities of this organization shall consist of carrying on propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation, and the organization shall not participate or intervene in any political campaign (including the publishing or distribution of statements) on behalf of any candidate for public office.
Article VIII – Dedication
The property of this organization is irrevocably dedicated to charitable purposes and no part of the net income or assets of this organization shall ever inure to the benefit of any director, officer, or private person.
Article IX – Dissolution
In the event of dissolution, all assets, real and personal, shall be distributed to such organizations as are qualified as tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code or the corresponding provisions of a future United States Internal Revenue Law. The various Schools and Colleges of Optometry in the United States shall have priority as the receiving organizations in this event.
